What can you do from home?

Brushing your teeth at least twice a day with fluoride containing toothpaste, flossing regularly and following a healthy diet, will help you maintain a good oral health in between your dental appointments.

Remember, the longer plaque and tartar sit on your teeth and gums the more harmful they become.

Please call our friendly staff at 02 9971 4555 to book in your next appointment at a time that suits you best.

It is well known that soft drinks are not good for our health. They can affect our bodies in more ways than you think, starting with your teeth.

The combination of sugar and carbonated drinks is damaging for your teeth as the acid dissolves the enamel (outer layer) of teeth and leads to tooth decay due to the high content of sugar. (The amount of sugar present in a can of 100ml of soda is about 11 teaspoons).

If fizzy drinks (soda and energy drinks) are consumed regularly, the high sugar content can lead to weight gain and obesity, increasing your risk of heart and kidney disease. There is also an 80% increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes, stroke and cancer.

The high levels of phosphoric acid in soft drinks can also lead to kidney issues and osteoporosis. When phosphorous lands in the kidneys is more prone to form kidney stones and then when it is excreted it takes some calcium ions with it.

What to drink instead?

Water is the best option to maintain our bodies hydrated and balanced. Not only is it accessible to the majority of the population, but it also contains small amounts of fluoride which helps in tooth decay prevention.

Other benefits of water: boosts your immune system, flushes out toxins, promotes weigh loss and improves skin complexion.

So our advice to you: drink more water and keep the fizzy drinks to a minimum or zero.
